Zhytomyr region

Administrative-territorial unit: it consists of 23 districts, 9 cities, including 4 - of regional subordination (Kiev, Berdichev, Korosten, Novograd-Volynsky), 45 towns and 1631 villages. The administrative center is Zhitomir, it was founded in the IX century, the city is from 1444. The population totals 297.5 thousand people.

The number of administrative districts is 23: Andrushivsky, Baranivsky, Berdichevsky, Brusilivsky, Vladetelno-Volynsky, Dzerzhinsky, (which was renamed Romanivsky 09.07.2003r.) Emilchinsky, Zhytomyr, Korosten, Korostishivsky, Luginsky, Lyubarsky, Malyn, Naroditsky, Novograd-Volynsky , Ovrutsky, Olevsk, Popilnyansky, Radomishlsky, Ruzhinsky, Krasnoarmeysk, Chernyahivsky, Chudnivsky.

Zhytomyr's population counts 279,4 ths.people, Berdichev's population is 85.4 ths.people, Korosten's population is 66.7 ths.people., Novograd-Volynsky's population is 56.1 ths.people.

The region is notable for its agro-commodity specialization wihin of Ukraine. Due to its northern position of the region plays a leading role in Ukraine in flax cultivation and hop-growing in the country it is notable for potato-growing and dairy livestock-breeding bias. Among the industries the most developed are light and porcelain-faience industry, chemical engineering, building materials industry, wood processing and pulp and paper industry, as well as the food industry. The region location at the crossroads of routes leads causes a high part of transport services and communications.

The region occupies a subordinate position in relation with the metropolitan region. Here, management of many companies is under the control of the capital's businessmen to large extend, trade largely goes through brokerage businesses located in capital, a significant part of production goes to the capital.
