About the region

Lugansk region

It is located in the eastern part of Ukrainian Donbas, at the middle flow of the river Seversky Donets. From south to north, it stretches for 250 km from west to east it stretches 190 km. The region has the longest border (about 800 km) with areas of Russia - Belgorod, Voronezh and Rostov. In the west, it borders on Donetsk and Kharkiv regions.

The administrative center is Luhansk. The region has 14 cities of regional value: Alchevsk, Anthratsite, Bryanka, Kirovsk, Krasnodon, Krasny Luch, Lisichansk, Luhansk, Pervomaisk, Rovenki, Rubizhnoe, Sverdlovsk, Severodonetsk, Stakhanov.

The leading role in the economy of the region belongs to industry, which produces about two-thirds of the gross social product of Ukraine.
