Kharkiv region

Its area is 31.4 thousand square kilometers.(5,2% of Ukraine's territory). The population is 2997.9 thousand people (about 6% of Ukraine's population), including urban population 2364.5 thousand people (78,9%), and rural population 633.4 thousand people (21,1%). Density of population is 95 persons. per sq. km. The region is located at flat country in the north-eastern part of Ukraine, at a distance of 493 meters to the east from Kiev. It borders on the Luhansk, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava and Sumy regions of Ukraine, and alspo it borders on the Belgorod region of Russia.

In respect of administrative and territorial the region consists of 27 administrative districts, 7 cities of regional subordination, 10 cities of district subordination, 60 towns, 1694 villages. The administrative center is Kharkiv, founded in 1654. Now 1510.2 thousand people live in the city. This is the second largest city after Kiev in Ukraine. The area is located at the turn of Middlerussian Hills, the Dnieper-Donetsk lowland and Donetsk mountain range, steppe and forest-steppe landscapes dominat here.

There are non-metal and fuel minerals. Fuels mineral are presented by a number of natural gas fields. The most famous non-metal minerals are distributed in construction. Novoselovskoe field glass sands has an important role, they are delivered to most of the glass factories of the European CIS.
