Chernivtsi region

It is located in the south-west of Ukraine with stream of rivers Dnestr and Prut. The region is a historical and geographic area of Bukovina.

The region has advantageous transport-geographical location.

In the west it borders on Ivano-Frankivsk, in the north on Ternopil and Khmelnytsky, in the east on Vinnitsa. In the south and east it borders on Romania (150 km) and Moldova (170 km).

Administrative-territorial division of the domain:
There are 11 administrative districts, 10 cities, 9 towns, 398 villages. A feature of the region is the absence of cities of regional subordination, except for center of the region.

The administrative center is Chernivtsi. It appeared in the 2 nd half of the XII century., The first record in chronicles dated 1407 year. The population totals 258.2 thousand people.

The region belongs to the category of industrial and agricultural. Along with the traditional industries - light, food, wood are developed the chemical, metal processing industry, appliances and machinery. The region is a "silicon valley" of Ukraine, and it has a strong intellectual and industrial potential in the radio electronics and instrument making.
