Chernigiv region

Chernigiv region - one of the most northern regions of Ukraine and it borders on Belarus (Gomel region) in the northwest and on Russia (Bryansk region) in the north. Sumy is in the east, Poltava is in the south, in the south-west and west it borders on Kyiv.

The region is divided into 22 districts, there are 15 cities, including 3 regional subordination (Chernigiv, Nizhin, Priluki), 30 towns and 1502 villages. There is Slavutych in the region it is the town of Chernobyl atomic scientists, a special enclave, which is administratively subordinated to the Kiev region.


The administrative center is Chernigiv, first it is mentioned in chronicles in 907.The population of the city has 309.9 thousand people.
